Star Wars: The Old Republic is bringing forth a cutting-edge cloud-based test server, known as the Shae Vizla server. Its main purpose is to evaluate performance and other technical parameters, culminating in the transfer of SWTOR live servers to the cloud via Amazon Web Services.
For the realization of such an extensive change, it’s crucial to scrutinize performance and confirm a seamless gaming experience in the cloud environment. This is where the novel test server takes center stage. Available from April 3rd, the server will be accessible in the APAC region and remain open to any curious player until April 18th.
The move to a cloud-based framework is consistent with SWTOR’s ongoing modernization initiatives as the team forecasts improvements in features, content, performance, and stability. The recent introduction of the 64-bit client in update 7.2.1 underscores the team’s dedication to progress.
Embracing cloud-based servers is predicted to foster game modernization, refine player experience with enhanced performance, expedited startup and connectivity, and diminished latency. Moreover, the team will have the capability to update backend systems more promptly and effectively. By reallocating resources that are currently dedicated to upholding the existing system, they can concentrate on improving the overall gaming experience.
Meticulous testing of the new server architecture is essential for the forthcoming migration. Developers request feedback on latency comparisons between live servers and the test server, any possible slowdowns or obstacles during travel, UI issues, or difficulties with visuals or audio. The Shae Vizla server is open to all players, particularly those in the APAC region. Being cloud-based, no separate downloads will be required, in contrast to the PTR.
To incentivize participation, a distinctive mount will be granted to players who contribute to data gathering and fulfill various goals.
