CCP Games Unveils Innovative New AAA Game Utilizing Blockchain Technology
CCP Games, the developer behind the popular MMORPG Eve Online, has announced a new AAA game that will incorporate blockchain technology. The project has already secured $40 million in funding from investors such as Andreessen Horowitz, Makers Fund, BITKRAFT, Kingsway Capital, Hashed, and Nexon. The new game will be set in the Eve universe and will feature game systems developed on-chain, creating a persistent world that is open to third-party development.
CCP Games CEO Hilmar Pétursson has stated that the company’s goal has always been to create virtual worlds that are more meaningful than real life, and that blockchain technology will enable them to achieve this vision. The new project, which is currently unnamed but referred to as “Project Awakening,” will give players greater agency and autonomy, allowing them to engage with the game in new ways.
